End of January update

Hi Blogger Friends,

Well my plan to blog weekly has fallen over already, so this post is a wrap up for January.

I am quite pleased with what I have achieved as a whole. I had 5 finishes  (I am including my Prairie Schooler Alphabet and part 1 of 12 of the Joyful World SAL)

So here they are

So not a bad amount of stitching. From top to bottom they are January Pin Cushion from Cross Stitch Collection Magazine designed by Sheena Rogers, Letter A from the Prairie Schooler Alphabet Series,
January from The Snowflower Diaries Joyful World SAL, True Love by Blackwork Journey (this piece took just under 19.5 hrs stitching over 8 days) and finally I managed to complete Twas the Night by Sue Hillis Designs ( this took 51 hrs and 10 minutes over 22 days).

So onto February my plans are as follows:-

Week 1

February Pin Cushion and Letter B Prairie Schooler Alphabet - Daily
Save the Stitches - Thursday
Rotation 1 - Victorian Charm (Every evening except Thursday)

Week 2

February Pin Cushion and Letter B Prairie Schooler Alphabet - Daily
Save the Stitches - Thursday
Rotation 2 - Raven (Every evening except Thursday)

Week 3

February Joyful World Sal and Letter B Prairie Schooler Alphabet - Daily
Save the Stitches - Thursday
Rotation 3 - A Stitch in Time by HAED/ Aimee Stewart

Week 4

February Joyful World Sal and Letter B Prairie Schooler Alphabet - Daily
Save the Stitches - Thursday
Rotation 4 - Orangutans by Jayne Netley Mayhew (Simon)

As there are 5 Mondays in February the final week I will make sure both Joyful World February and Letter B are finished on the Monday 29th and Thursday work on Save the Stitches then the rest of that week is either a catch up or I will dig out a UFO if I am caught up and this will be Japanese Gold by Lesley Teare.

I have rejigged how I am working my rotations as I initially had both Save the Stitches and Simon on the weekends. The problem was I don't always get much stitching time then. So I have planned it this way from now on. Save the Stitches will get 10 weeks before I switch to Paws and Claws another sampler UFO. Coming into February STS has had 2 days already so 8 remain, so end of March will see me move over to Paws and Claws and back and forth 10 Thursdays each until they are done.

I will post my next update here on the 8th February.

Week 2 - 2016 Update

Hi Blogger Friends,

It has been another fairly productive stitchy week for me.

On Saturday I finished stitching my January Pin Cushion. I worked on this for 9 days and it took 12hrs and 53 minutes to stitch. It is stitched on 14ct white aida using the recommended DMC threads
and here is what it looks like made up into pin cushion which took another hour.
Design by Sheena Rogers from Cross Stitch Collection magazine

On Saturday I also worked on Save the Stitches by Blackwork Journey. The last time I took a photo it looked like this
and as I explained in my last blog post I frogged out the bit in the bottom as I was not happy with how it looked. I worked on it for about 2.5 hrs and below is where I got to.
I am pleased with the progress the photo isn't that good the colour of the fabric is like the first photo but all progress is good as far as I am concerned.

On Sunday I returned to working on Orangutans (Simon) by Jayne Netley Mayhew.
This is where I left it last week
And here is what I achieved this week. It's about 3 hrs stitching.
I think it is beginning to look more like an a Orangutan now and again I am pleased with the progress I have made.

I spent most of the week working on my Prairie Schooler Alphabet and I have gone from this
to completing the Letter A (so I have earned a bonus £1, I am rewarding myself for each letter completed as this is a very long term project). Letter A took 12 days or 20hrs 33 mins to stitch I have also started on the Letter B

I have so far spent 13 days on this project. I am now going to leave this until February as my intention was to get one letter done each month and I have achieved that.

On Monday I started working on the Joyful World SAL from The Snowflower Diaries on Facebook, I am hoping to get January completed in January and below is a link to the The Snowflower Diaries blog where you can get the chartsThe Snowflower Diaries - Joyful World SAL and also my progress
which isn't very much

Sadly I haven't done any work  on Twas the Night by Sue Hillis Designs. But I do intend to try and still get it completed before the end of January here is where I left it last week.
The reason for lack of work on this is two fold. I think I am experiencing a bit of stitching burn out having had a very intense first week of the New Year and also I got sidetracked by Colouring. As part of my birthday present I got the following
and below is the colouring I have done this week
Design from the book above using the Marco Raffine 7100 pencils (72 set) above. For cheap they work out at 30 p  a pencil I am really pleased they are very vibrant and I can press fairly hard without them breaking.
The cover under the dust jacket of Secret Garden this has been coloured using WHSmith 36 Colouring Pencils - The Spectrum Sings and Staedtler Ergosoft 24 set.
Also from the Secret Garden by Johanna Basford this one is using fine liner pens and gel pens. This is a much quicker method of colouring but I personally prefer pencils as I feel I have more control. Not very keen on the fine liners but do like the gel pens.

Finally this week I received a cross stitch kit The Winter Russian Doll which my daughter got for me. So I now have two of the seasons and at some stage I will have to get Summer and Autumn

So that is it for this week. In the coming week I intend to work on Joyful World, Save the Stitches, Simon and Twas the Night. I will also be starting another very large and long term project. A Stitch in Time design by Aimee Stewart charted by HAED
I am just waiting on the fabric to arrive. I have gone for the regular chart but in Max Colors so there are 237 different shades of floss. The stitch count of this design is 725 x 518 and I will be doing it on 18ct Aida as I did not want to have two large HAED's in progress both on 28ct 1 over 1, I don't think my eyes would take it. So wish me luck I really am a glutton at times.

Anyway I hope you all have a great week

bye for now

take care
love

Lisa

Week 1 - 2016 and End of 2015 Update

Hi Blogger Friends,

Happy New Year - I hope you all had a great Holiday Season.

This post will contain what I got done from 8th December (my last blog post) to the end of the year. I will review the first weeks stitching of 2016 and at the end of the post show the stitchy stuff I had for Christmas.

Since my last post in December I finished my December Pin Cushion (design by Sheena Rogers from Cross Stitch Collection magazine)
and I stitched both my Husband a 50th Birthday Card and my daughter a 21st Birthday card. Both are designs from Joan Elliott and both took me over 20 hrs to stitch so although I think they are stunning designs and were both well received they are not quick stitches.

These were my last finishes of 2015. I did not finish either Twas the Night by Sue Hillis Designs or True Love by Blackwork Journey, but since the New Year have worked on both of these for one evening each.

The top photo is where I left the project on the 9th December 2015 and the bottom photo is the back stitching I did on the bottom left last night. I am going to work on this project every time I complete a 10hr rotation from my main rota and will work 10hrs each time on this until I complete it. So last night I got to work on this as I had finished my first 10 hr rotation on Rotation 1 in 2016.
On Saturday I was supposed to work on Save the Stitches above design from Liz Almond of Blackwork Journey and this was my starting point. When I started working on it late Saturday afternoon (I had been travelling all day taking my Mum back to Southampton) I did not like how the block I was working on looked so frogged it and started this block again from the left side. I did not take a photo as I only managed about 30 mins stitching. I was tired from the travelling and wasn't happy sat at my frame so decided I would work on True Love below instead, also by Blackwork Journey.

I did the right hand border including the hearts and enjoyed my stitching. This project will be worked on again once I complete my Monthly Project - January Pin Cushion and I am hopeful that I will get it finished in January.

On the First January which was also my 47th Birthday I started working on both January Pin Cushion and Prairie Schooler Alphabet.
Here's where I got to in a week
I am really pleased with my progress and think I will probably complete the stitching part this weekend.
This is where I have got with the Prairie Schooler Alphabet. This takes me a little longer to work on as it is 20 ct fabric and I find two strands of floss can be difficult at times. I made one slight change to the charted project. I changed the red from 3857 to 355 just to make it a little brighter. I am hopeful that I will complete at least one letter a month. This was always going to be  long term project but I am hopeful that towards the end of 2017 it should be completed.

On Sunday the 3rd January 2016 which was also my husbands 50th birthday, I started working on Orangutans by Jayne Netley Mayhew and to which I refer to as Simon. The finished design will look like this
and this is where I got to week 1
I am stitching this on 28ct Lightening Strike Jobelan from Polstitches and am pleased with my progress so far.

Finally the last bit of stitching I have done since the New Year was my first rotation. Now it was supposed to be Little House Needleworks - Home of a Needleworker Too, but my planned projects for Rotation 1 included 2 largish projects so I decided to move the LHN one to the second project I do in Rotation 1 as this should not take so long. So on the 4th January I started working on Victorian Charm by Sunset/Dimensions. When finished it should look like this
This is the kit I had gifted to me. Here is where I got to after 10.5 hrs over 4 days
I am really pleased with the progress and pleasantly surprised at working on 18ct Navy Aida, I thought I would struggle with it but so far it has not been a problem working under good light has certainly helped and I don't know how I stitched for years without good lighting.

So that's it for my stitching. I have done 37.5hrs in the first week of 2016 so that is £3.75 into my money box. I have had no finishes so no bonus pennies to add this week. I have not bought anything this week. So off to a good start.

Below are some of the stitchy things I got for Christmas
So I bought for myself Spring, Summer and Autumn Samplers from Janlynn, Old Street by Riolis, Seashell Treasures by Dimensions, Frixion Pastel Highlighter Pens, Storytime Sampler Chart from Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery, a hoop from a seller on Amazon (this differs from the others I have purchased recently in that the gripper part is on the outer hoop not inner) and finally my daughter brought me back a pint sized Eeyore mug from the Disney store in Copenhagen, Denmark. So I have plenty of lovely stitching things to add to my stash and look forward to stitching some time in the future.

Finally whilst out shopping over the Christmas period I went into my local The Works shop and saw these two boxes for £15 and so because they are quite well made I got them

Future blog posts will be named Week " " - 2016 Update, if they are stitching related and I aim to post every Friday. If any of you are curious about what I am stitching I post daily on  Instagram my id on there is loubie69. If my post is non stitching/craft related it will have a named title as opposed to week this or that.

So that is it for the first week of 2016, I don't expect to be as productive as this week every week. This week was more a case of I did so little for a fortnight I needed to stitch and so I have. If I can get about 20 hrs in a week I will be more than happy.

Bye for now
take care
love

Lisa
